OUGD601 COP Practical - Signpainted signs & techniques used

Primary & Secondary Research

To fully understand sign painting techniques I have locally gone round Leeds and taken some photographs and examples of hand painted signs.

This is just a small example of the sign writing in Leeds.

Mrs Atha's coffee house

Mrs Atha's sign has been hand painted onto black chalk board, this is a sign for a artisanal coffee house everything in the cafe is Handmade and reflects the whole crafty aspect.

Bundobust - Street food
Like in india trucks and lorrys are painted with beautiful typography to advertise, often the type reads horn please. This sign has been influenced by indian culture much like the food served inside.

Electric Press
This building showcases some simple hand painted type, this really reflects the business inside the buildings, a few of the restaurants and bars are independent.

Next door Nation of Shopkeepers
Next door to Shopkeepers have some beautiful gilded type in there window, although I do not know the context the style and luxury reflects the facade of the building as it is elegant and has a great deal of history to it.
