OUGD601 COP Module Evaluation

Module Evaluation

This module has been both difficult and riveting. I have learnt loads of information about my subject sign writing and even the technicals on how to create my own. Researching my topic proved to be challenging as there is not a lot of information on the subject, this meant that I needed to gather primary sources. To do this I contacted 10 people in this profession, unfortunately only 3 of the 10 got back to me and were willing to help, although only 3 of 10 responded to me each of the answers they gave were both thorough and interesting, this allowed me to use their content in my dissertation to hold up arguments and focal points.

Of my essay I found the most difficult was gathering reliable sources, although at first this proved difficult I managed find around 20+ books on my subject, this made researching and writing much easier than first anticipated. To write and plan out my essay, I started off by creating a time plan, this helped me manage my time effectively, with the time given - I sticked to this as much as could without going off track, in most instances I stuck to my targets and met my mini deadlines. I think my time management has been the most successful of the 3 years, I feel doing this essay it has allowed me to manage my time independently.

Mid way through my essay I began to think about my practical, at the same time that I wrote a time plan for the essay I wrote one for the practical, with my research I found doing the practical really easy to get into, managing my time was much more difficult for the practical as I had not allowed time for trial and error fortunately doing my practical so early it meant I could spend extra time on the things I need to, creating the sign took longer than expected.

My synthesis goes into further detail of the connections between my essay and practical element. Putting it shortly my practical is direct reflection on sign writing, tone of voice and the overall skills involved in creating a sign.

Overall I have enjoyed doing this module, although initially it was hard to get into the more I was learning the more I began to enjoy writing about my topic, writing has never been a strong point as im sure for many others, but I am happy with the overally writing element. As for the practical I enjoyed doing this a lot I learnt a number of new skills, and in doing so I feel I understand my topic a lot more, I would consider using this new media in future briefs if ever appropriate. I believe this module has helped me manage time, not only time but learn new skills and even learn to appreciate something I new little about before this module, it has allowed me to learn more and I will continue to learn more about my subject.
