Personification is the related attribution of human form and characteristics to abstract concepts such as nations, emotions and natural forces like seasonsand the weather.
Both have ancient roots as storytelling and artistic devices, and most cultures have traditional fables with anthropomorphized animals as characters. People have also routinely attributed human emotions and behavioural traits to wild as well as domestic animals.[3]'
I have noticed through my market research the use of animal characters on packaging to tell a story, the personification is used heavily on selling products to and for children and example of this would be M&S percy pigs and Waitress children sweet range.
The use of telling a story through a animal would be engaging for children and both the parents. This would work on this packaging.
Pick & mix can be dated back to a very long time ago, sweets today are the last remains of the traditional sweets.
Because of this the beginning of packet sweets began. Pick & Mix still exists but not in the same way. In the era of pick and mix they were packaged with a strong association and theme of outer space, they even created the famous sherbet flying saucers.
Using a retro style for the packaging design would be a great homage to traditions.
