OUGD603 Leeds Print Fest - Ideas and development

From my research I decided to create a lino print because of it experimental nature much like Lanza’s song and video, with this in mind all my ideas needed to be able to be replicated for lino printing. My idea’s were strictly based on the music and video to make sure my design didn’t stray too far from Lanza’s song. I thought of creating Kaleidoscopes, geometric patterns and even how we say things in terms of phonetics all of these seemed achievable to create and cut into lino. Before deciding on an idea I asked peers which design they felt worked best in order to represent Lanza’s song.

In response to my ideas they felt the strongest designs to create in print were between my phonetic mouths appearing to say oh no and the typographical design inspired Burrill and Wolske’s work on type and colour theory. It was also pointed out to me that my typographic design could be both reflected and flipped but still readable as OH NO.
