One thing the brief asks for is a speci c theme for the collection, this is important to the success of the whole range. To do this I used my research into card ranges and the market to understand what is missing from the current market.
One thing in particular struck out to me but the fact that there were no options of cards or notecards, for pen pals. This is common thing for young adults and teenagers, when friends move away there are things such as social media to keep in touch but i think sometimes it is important to move away from
What I’m going to do?
Galaxies Apart, is a painterly and illustrative range aimed for a female audience but not restrictive to. With the age range of 16 onwards. The concept of ‘Galaxies Apart’ is a referral to when friends and/or family move away when going to university/jobs and so forth. The range is to continue connections the digital and show your appretiation to your friends with a good old hand written letter.
With this as my theme I tried to come up with concepts for pen pals, I had a variation of ideas including travelling, nature, typograhpy, wanderlust and space - I sketched these out to see what I could come up with in terms of design as it is important the concept is strong enough for a full range.
Out of all these topics the most relevant and trendy of the ideas is space. This is something young adults are currently engaging with. With this as a theme it would appeal to the age range I would like to target.
Target Audience
I wanted to create a card range which would help distant friends communicate, with my initial idea intact my theme and concept took place.
