Scott Martin - 'Martin quite strictly bases his characters and objects on geometric shapes. Circles being a favourite. But he knows when to break the rules and deviate from the framework. Kindly, Martin has a lot of his development work in his portfolio for you to examine and understand his process.' I chose Scott to look at because his work is both colourful and fun but still is a good example of clean modernist design. This is something I could hone for the calender.
Paul Rand - Rand is well known for his bright, geometric and typographic designs, this is something I could experiment with to adhere to the clients briefs using rands style the deisgn will be both colourful modern and clean. '"He is a painter, lecturer, industrial designer, [and] advertising artist who draws his knowledge and creativeness from the resources of this country. He is an idealist and a realist, using the language of the poet and business man. He thinks in terms of need and function. He is able to analyze his problems but his fantasy is boundless." Paul Rand is one of the most famous and recognized American designers of the 20th Century. His ideas, philosophies and approach continue to be a large part of the fundamentals of design taught in education programs across the world.'
Ken Wong - Monument valley
Monument Valley although not solely meant as a style, utilises both modern and playful design, this game is greatly recognised and played - very successful. This is one of my favourite games not because of the challenges but the beautiful buildings and details which add great character but still uncomplicated.
Muller Brockman - Brockman like Rand is a minimalist he is known for his iconic and recognisable posters, they are sophisticated and modern to use his designs as inspiration - my designs should easily reflect this.
Jessica Hische -
A breath of fresh air, Hische is a typographer she creates elegant and traditional type, not only this but it could be reflected and seen as modern due to the rebirth of traditional mediums, her typography would look beautiful on any design, it would be nice to experiment with for the harrison calender.
